Heidi

Heidi Who am I?

I am a mother of two handsome, smart, happy, well-behaved (mostly), CRAZY, full-of-energy, sweet-as-can-be BOYS. One is almost four, the other is almost one (though he seems to think he’s the same age as his brother). They are both the greatest joys and the greatest frustrations of my life.

I am the wife of a handsome (almost) doctor. He is the type that is smart, kind, funny, athletic, handy with tools (and can fix ANYTHING that I so happily, accidentally break), somewhat on the granola side (he wants to live in a container home with alternative energy and our own permaculture farm), and is my best friend. Jealous yet? Sorry, he’s taken. We’re going on 6 years now...

I am a daughter of a (doctor that can’t do anything) chemist and a pediatric nurse. Consequently, my upbringing was molded with disease-prevention, and chemical explanations as to how and why the nutrition works. It also was spent relearning chemistry and calculus from a much better teacher than those that existed at school. Because of this I tend to be on the granola-side in regards to home-based education.

I am an outdoorsy, sporty-type girl. I’d rather be outside than inside, and I’d rather be hot than cold. Summer is the perfect season - I love to swim, wakeboard, surf, snorkel, sail, paddle-board, canoe, and basically LIVE in the water, but I HATE to be cold (I’m not the wetsuit-doning, season-defying type - far too cold for that). If I have to be cold, I like to be in a place where there are mountains and snow, so that the cold is actually good for something (snowboarding, skiing, and making snowmen). Besides that, there’s really no reason to have cold weather.

I am an aspiring musician. I say aspiring because I am quite pathetic. I love to sing, and do that quite well, but the extent of my piano and guitar are similar to that of very novice children. I really am terrible. But, I try. And my kids think I play well.

I am passive aggressive (which I never knew until I was married), I avoid conflicts like the plague, I am a perfectionist as well as a mild procrastinator, I am spatially-impaired, and get lost pretty much everywhere I go, I have lost just about everything I own at least once, and the only way I remember appointments is by writing them (via dry-erase markers) on my mirror that I see, daily. I’m mildly obsessive compulsive in the fact that I get stressed out if I am in a messy room, and that I can’t go to sleep without washing my face (it’s really a problem that I’m trying to overcome.) I love to make other people happy, especially by serving them, but am terrible at keeping in touch with loved ones far away. I have never been a very good ‘girl’ friend, and usually only have one good girlfriend anywhere I live, simply because girls tend to give me headaches: drama and gossip bore me. Despite this, I have strains of feminism running deep in my veins. Since beating Tripp Strickland at the mile in fifth grade, I have been trying to prove I am just as capable as men ever since.

I am a Master in Education, with a degree in Human Development. I am using both currently, while working from home as a stay-at-home mom, educator, health provider, dietician, financial advisor, consultant, housekeeper, cook, maid, and project manager. Oh...and I am a blogger.

Finally, I am a daughter of God. My faith is central to my personality, ideals, and motivations. I believe my family is eternal, my body is a temple, and that my choices can impact the world for good. Praying to my Father in Heaven, reading scriptures, attending church services, and relying on my Savior has been my base, my foundation, grounding me and keeping me sane, despite the chaos which is raising two young boys.
